Battlefords RCMP used multiple tire deflation devices to stop a stolen semi-truck on Wednesday morning.
Around 7:30, officers attempted to pull over the semi as it was approaching North Battleford on Highway 16. The driver fled from police and continued on Highway 16 at a high speed.
The semi ran over the first deflation device but continued down Highway 16. After running over a second tire deflation device, the truck’s tires began to disintegrate. The semi continued to drive on the rims before the vehicle left the road and came to a stop. The driver exited the vehicle and was arrested.
Thirty-eight-year-old Adam Cole from Camrose is charged with the following:
- one count, operation while prohibited, Section 320.18, Criminal Code;
- one count, flight from police, Section 320.17, Criminal Code;
- one count, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, Section 320.13(1), Criminal Code; and
- one count, possession of property over $5,000 obtained by crime, Section 354(1)(a), Criminal Code.
Cole made his first court appearance on Thursday.
The local RCMP detachment commander says officers worked quickly to ensure other drivers stayed a safe distance away from a dangerous situation.
