This is Vanese Ferguson with Coffee Talk. So, at community level Saskatoon has implemented regulations around bear spray. However, it doesn’t seem to have lessened the number of incidents. I have started following a couple of Facebook groups, community type Facebook groups, which is something I pulled back from because of the amount of trolling that takes place. You know, someone makes a post and then for whatever reason the haters just pile on. But what keeps me interested is the number of posts that seem to be genuine experiences including people being bear-sprayed. I mean, I’m now at a point where I’m looking into how I would mitigate the effects of such a thing. I applaud the efforts of the City of Saskatoon and the Saskatoon Police Service and the Saskatoon Fire Department for trying to tamp down on this menace which seems to be creating, for a lot of residents, concern about where they can go in the city and feel safe from such an attack. That’s the point, it’s everywhere. Perhaps concentrated a bit more in some areas however let’s face it, you can buy bear spray or a version thereof off Amazon. Until it can be controlled at that level, I don’t know how we’re going to make real headway. And it’s not like the perpetrators are being kept in jail because they are charged and released until a court date. That’s not unreasonable but it also makes it quite possible that they will just go out and do it again.
