After falling behind, the Saskatoon Blades made a gallant attempt to chase down the Brandon Wheat Kings, but couldn’t catch up in the end, falling 3-2 on the road Monday.

It was a big setback for the Bridge City Bunch, now 27-23-6 for the season as they are now five points behind the 32-22-1 Wheaties for second place in the East Division and fifth place in the Eastern Conference. To make matters worse, Calgary’s win that snapped Everett’s winning streak at 13 games, means the Blue and Gold are nine points back of the Hitmen for fourth spot in the Conference and home-ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs. The Blades will need an opposite run over the final 12 games of the regular-season to the 3-7-2 they have put forth in the last 12 outings. Saskatoon did start the season with a 9-3-0 record. Brandon got out to leads of 2-0 and 3-1 with the Bridge City Bunch closing to within one goal twice, but couldn’t net the equalizer. Jaxon Jacobson assisted on all three Wheat Kings’ goals while David Lewandowski scored and assisted on Zach Olsen’s power play tally as the Blue and Gold went two-for-four on the man advantage. The fourth attempt in the later stages of the third period hit a goal post, but couldn’t notch the tying marker. The Blades are off until a Friday visit to Red Deer.
