The Saskatchewan SPCA has shared a post from Humane Canada about an animal cruelty case in Winnipeg which has resulted in the harshest animal cruelty sentence in Canadian history.
Humane Canada says a Winnipeg couple responsible for the torture and deaths of more than 90 animals has received 12 years in prison and a lifetime ban on being around animals.
Humane Canada says their organization helped the Winnipeg Human Society craft the Community Impact Statement which was read by the judge when the sentence was delivered. It documented some of the vicarious trauma experienced by staff who fielded calls from the public as horrific details of the case emerged.
