Regina Fire & Protective Services has provided an update regarding a fatal carbon monoxide incident in the Queen City that occurred on December 19th last year.

Fire officials say the scene examination at a multi-unit residential building at 1827 Albert Street is complete, but the investigation continues in cooperation with the Regina Police Service.

Fire officials say the incident is unintentional and was caused “by a boiler that experienced significant internal failure, resulting in a substantial release of carbon monoxide.”

The boiler is going to be sent away for further examination to determine the precise cause of failure.

Eleven-year-old Henry Losco died that day from carbon monoxide poisoning while in the family’s suite in the apartment building and his father was taken to hospital in critical condition.

Regina Fire & Protective Services urges residents to install CSA-approved carbon monoxide alarms either right inside, or outside, of each sleeping area of the home and one on each level in homes with fuel-burning appliances or attached garages.

They also stress that a carbon monoxide alarm should never be ignored. If it sounds, evacuate immediately and call 9-1-1.
