It’s my Parting Shot for some Weekend Short Shots…..
I’ll start with something positive, surprising and unprecedented – at least for me. I was in the drive-thru line at Dairy Queen earlier this week – yes, my wife and I like the occasional blizzard even during the winter months! When I got to the window to pay for the treats, I was informed that the person in front of me had paid for me. I had heard about, “paying forward,” but never experienced it until then. The only problem was there was nobody behind me that I could pay forward for them! I hope I get that opportunity in the future because that’s the touch of kindness that restores my faith in humanity!
The downside of drive-thrus – people who cause the line to back up because they are ordering, either, full-on meals for their entire family of at least four people or are buying coffee and doughnuts for the entire office! That is so wrong and so frustrating and, as far as I’m concerned, goes 180 degrees against what drive thrus and fast food is all about! In the future folks, consider parking your vehicle and going inside to place your order, rather than slowing up something that is supposed to be quick and convenient!!
What do those two things have to do with sports, Les? Absolutely nothing, but I am a person with interests and a life beyond the “Toy Department!” Be thankful I don’t start spouting political rhetoric!!
If you want sports talk, how happy are we all going to be to have tonight’s Mitch Marner return to Toronto be over and done with?! A lot of hot air and website space devoted to this topic, based out of Hogtown, have been wasted on the rest of us from the hinterlands!!
We’ve been warned so much about the construction delays and the sub-standard facilities that are going to greet the competing teams for the Olympic hockey tournaments in Milan, Italy next month – to the point that it’s been suggested that the event could be cancelled! No, no, NO!! You can’t do that! Tease us with the idea of, finally, having a best-on-best event – of course minus the Russians, which as a Ukrainian is fine by me – then take it away because the host nation can’t get its act together! Please, let us get to February 5th without any hitches!!
