Cooper Williams (pictured) forced overtime in the final minute of the third period on a night when his bobblehead doll was handed out to those in attendance at SaskTel Centre and former Tiger Hayden Harsanyi scored the lone goal of the shootout as the Saskatoon Blades out-lasted Medicine Hat 3-2 Friday night. The victory was the Bridge City Bunch’s first over the Bengals in five tries, the last success coming on November 23, 2024, when Tyler Parr notched the overtime winner in a 4-3 decision at Medicine Hat. The win was a great way to send the Blue and Gold off on the road for four straight games, starting Sunday in Edmonton. The Blades will also visit Medicine Hat on Tuesday, Lethbridge on Wednesday and Prince Albert on Saturday, January 31. Saskatoon’s next home game is Sunday, February 1 against the Raiders. The Bridge City Bunch never led, but battled back from 1-0 and 2-1 deficits on goals by Hunter Laing and Williams – the latter’s goal coming with 56 seconds remaining in regulation time. Playing with four regular defenceman and two affiliate call-ups on the blueline, the Blue and Gold held the high-octane Tigers’ offence to 29 shots on Evan Gardner, who stopped all three Medicine Hat shootout attempts. The win boosted the 24-16-4 Blades into second place in the East Division and fifth spot in the Eastern Conference, one point ahead of Brandon and one point behind fourth place Calgary.
