Two Alberta men have been charged with kidnapping with a firearm, following an incident in Yorkton.
Yorkton RCMP say on Tuesday a man was in a parked vehicle on 4th Avenue North in Yorkton, when two men wearing face coverings, forced him out of the vehicle at gunpoint, placed him in a separate SUV, and drove away.
Police spotted a suspect SUV on Highway 10, heading towards Melville, and their attempt at a traffic stop was unsuccessful however, the vehicle then hit the ditch, and the suspects were arrested.
RCMP say their search of the SUV yielded a loaded firearm, a firearm magazine, ammunition, about 88 grams of cocaine, about 88 grams of crystal meth, and about 16 grams of fentanyl. The police say their investigation determined the suspects and victim were known to one another.
Two men, 24-year-old Preston Carroll and 20-year-old Dante Douglas, both of Fort McMurray, Alberta., appeared in Yorkton Provincial Court Thursday and were remanded in custody until their next court appearance next Tuesday.
24-year-old Preston Carroll and 20-year-old Dante Douglas, both from Fort McMurray, AB, are each charged with:
- one count, possession for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine, Section 5(2), Controlled Drugs and Substances Act;
- one count, possession for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine, Section 5(2), Controlled Drugs and Substances Act;
- one count, possession for the purpose of trafficking – fentanyl, Section 5(2), Controlled Drugs and Substances Act;
- one count, kidnapping with a firearm, Section 278(1.1)(a.1), Criminal Code;
- one count, unauthorized possession of a firearm, Section 91(1), Criminal Code;
- one count, possession of a firearm/weapon/device/ammunition in motor vehicle, Section 94(1)(a), Criminal Code;
- one count, careless use of a firearm, Section 86(1), Criminal Code;
- one count, possession of a firearm when knowing possession unauthorized, Section 92(1), Criminal Code; and
- one count, possession of a prohibited weapon when knowing possession unauthorized, Section 92(2), Criminal Code.
Preston Carroll is additionally charged with:
- one count, disguised with intent to commit offence, Section 351(2), Criminal Code;
- one count, assault, Section 266, Criminal Code;
- two counts, uttering threats against a person, Section 264.1(1)(a), Criminal Code;
- one count, pointing a firearm, Section 87, Criminal Code.
Dante Douglas is additionally charged with:
- one count, flight from peace officer, Section 320.17, Criminal Code; and
- one count, dangerous operation of motor vehicle, Section 320.13(1), Criminal Code.
