The Opposition NDP says the recent collapse of a Saskatoon school’s roof is evidence of the provincial government’s negligence.
A news release from the NDP says on Monday, the roof in the library of Saskatoon’s École Canadienne Française- Pavillion Monique Rosseau collapsed. No one was in the library at the time of the incident.
This isn’t the first time this has happened at the 114-year-old school. The NDP says in 2023, two classrooms and half of the on-site daycare were forced to close because of water damage resulting from a hole in the roof.
Matt Love, Education Critic says, “Too many of the buildings our students learn in every day are dangerous. A roof collapse inside a school building should never happen in a place like Saskatchewan.” The library is now under a contractor assessment.
The NDP add that this school isn’t alone. The release says a government report prepared in June found 13 schools in the province were in critical condition and another 132 schools were in a poor condition.
