The Saskatoon Tribal Council has scheduled a news conference this morning with family members of the man who died Friday following an incident involving security officers at Royal University Hospital. STC Tribal Chief Mark Arcand will also be in attendance.
The Saskatchewan Health Authority had said in its statement regarding the matter that it was coordinating with the Saskatoon Tribal Council to provide supports to the patient’s family and loved ones as well as support to staff members involved. Social media posts identify Trevor Dubois of Prince Albert as the individual who died in the incident at Royal University Hospital.
The Saskatchewan Health Authority says Saskatoon police are investigating an incident at Royal University Hospital where a patient died after an altercation with security officers.
The statement late Friday afternoon says that Friday morning Protective Services Officers were called to a patient’s room after staff reported a safety concern.
The email states, “During the response, a physical altercation occurred between the patient and SHA Protective Services Officers, and the patient became unresponsive.” The SHA says the patient who had been admitted to hospital was pronounced dead by responding medical staff.
The Health Authority also indicates that it has deemed this a critical incident, which initiates a legislated process for review and reporting, including a formal internal review.
