This is Vanese Ferguson with Coffee Talk. At this point in its development the “cons” when it comes to AI are significant. There are concerns about cybersecurity threats. Think about it – AI can clone voices and generate fake identities. There are data privacy issues and accuracy or lack thereof, is a big concern. Take for instance that report generated at the end of last year by MNP for the federal government which contained references that didn’t exist. If we want to put together for instance a scoreboard for our webpage – not great. I asked ChatGPT to generate such an item yesterday and keep in mind – there were 12 NBA games I believe on Wednesday but it generated scores for six. So how do you even trust the technology? I know people who ask for tips to guide them through work and relationship situations. Their reasoning is that they’re accessing the largest library in the world. And that may be but you’re not the one shortlisting the information you want to concentrate on. And here’s one a lot of people don’t think about – it’s environmental impact. AI is energy-intensive computations with a significant carbon footprint. I think we are a ways off from it being a technology to trust.
