I’m Vanese Ferguson with Coffee Talk. I am not going to whitewash it – I dislike apps in general, and I hate banking apps. I do not have a banking app on my phone, and I don’t plan to have one anytime soon. I have nothing but admiration for folks older than me, seniors with some significant amount of living in the rearview mirror, who do use apps. My mother is one of them. God bless. I was at my bank yesterday and a woman probably around my mom’s age was battling a great deal of frustration because she couldn’t get into her account either on the app or on the computer. And of course, there’s that whole rigamarole where they send verification codes on your phone via text and you have to give that code to the teller and round and round the mulberry bush. Nothing irritates me more than when I have made an appointment to go to my bank to discuss something like my TFSA which will require me to sign documents and I’m told that instead the 15-minute visit, I could have done it by calling the bank. I don’t want to call the bank. I don’t want to go through a bunch of verification questions to establish I am who I am, I don’t want to use the app. What I want, is to go into the bank and talk to a live, standing in front me person. And I can’t tell you how quickly become irked when I go into the bank deposit money and am told I could have done it on the ATM. You mean that one that is again being serviced? Cause if I have to drive around the bank to park and then come in because your drive thru atm not working again, then, I guess I’m going full service.
Not on the app bandwagon yet
