Last Monday November 10th, John Fortin of Nipawin was arrested in connection to an ongoing investigation by the Prince Albert Crime Reduction Team (CRT). RCMP say a small quantity of cocaine was seized during the arrest. That arrest led to a search warrant being executed at a home in Nipawin.
Prince Albert RCMP and Prince Albert Police Service CRT’s and the RCMP’s Critical Incident Response Team seized a loaded prohibited pistol, a carbine rifle with no serial numbers and loaded prohibited magazines, a rifle, a replica submachine gun, a conducted energy weapon (commonly known as taser), items associated with drug trafficking like a scale and packaging. As well they seized 300 grams of an unknown white powder which is being sent to Health Canada for further examination.
A woman was also arrested at the house but later released without any charges being laid. Fortin is in court in December facing six weapons related charges.
In a news release Corporal Tyler Kerr of the RCMP’s Crime Reduction Team said, “The investigation determined drugs were being trafficked in the Nipawin, Tisdale, Melfort, Carrot River and surrounding area.”
