The Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team is investigating the death of a 35-year-old man in the Saskatoon Police Service Detention Unit on Tuesday morning.
A news release from police says the man began experiencing medical distress around 9:30 a.m.
He had been brought into custody in connection to assaults reported in the 300 block of Avenue Q South.
Those alleged assaults involved a five-year-old girl and 40-year-old woman. Members of the SPS Serious Assault Unit are conducting that investigation.
Further information will be released by SIRT in regard to the in-custody death.
Since 2016 Saskatoon Police Service has had paramedics in city detention cells around the clock.
