This is Vanese Ferguson with Coffee Talk. Remembrance Day tomorrow is near and dear for me and my family. My father was a cop, my mother was in the Navy, my brother in the Canadian Airborne regiment and my husband spent 26 years in the Canadian forces serving six tours of duty overseas. I find it heartening to hear the legion is seeing a comeback after years of decline. It is serving as a gathering place not just for veterans and associate members but for the community. And in Saskatoon we have the extra special draw of the Saskatoon Military Museum at the Nutana legion which will be open tomorrow. It’s an amazing place that tells the stories of Saskatchewan people and it’s been curated in a manner that makes it a relatable space for anyone of any age. So, I urge you if you don’t attend a service then take that moment to observe silence at 11 a.m. If you have the opportunity, check out the museum. And out of respect – and if you haven’t yet – maybe pin on a poppy.
Remembrance Day is more than a stat holiday
