Monday while attending the Canadian Nuclear Association West conference in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan NDP SaskPower, Jobs & Economy Shadow Minister Aleana Young announced that the Saskatchewan NDP will release a plan for Saskatchewan’s energy future.
The NDP says its Grid & Growth Plan will lay out an alternative to the Saskatchewan government’s intention of firing up the province’s coal plants.
In a news release Young said, “We should be capitalizing on all of those opportunities in the nuclear sector – from rock to reactor.”
The NDP intends to release the plan this year and describes it as a solution that evaluates a mix of energy alternatives, including renewables, nuclear, and natural gas generation. The NDP says it will also explore and evaluate the business case for large-scale nuclear generation.
Young describes SaskPower and the province’s power grid as the foundation of everything – from farms to factories to family budgets. She said, “If we don’t control our energy future, we don’t control our economic future.”
