On Saturday morning around 2:50 a.m. Creighton RCMP responded to a report of an assault at a home in Creighton. Officers arrived at the home where it was reported a man had assaulted a woman and she was taken against her will in a vehicle by the man who was said to have a weapon.
Officers located the vehicle driving in the Creighton area. The vehicle wouldn’t pull over when officers attempted a traffic stop, and a tire deflation device was later used. While the vehicle did drive over the device it continued for about another kilometre and then crashed into a building. Officers saw the driver flee on foot and located another seriously injured man in the passenger seat. He was transported to hospital and later declared deceased. The injured man is a 20-year-old man from Deschambault Lake.
The accident and the man’s death have been reported to the Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team.
With the assistance of Saskatchewan RCMP’s Police Dog Services, the driver who fled from the vehicle was located and arrested in the Creighton area later in the morning Saturday Investigation determined the driver who fled from the collision is believed involved in the assault that occurred earlier in the evening. The woman who was allegedly assaulted was located and she was not in the vehicle at the time of the accident.
Twenty-seven-year-old Winston Michel from Creighton is in La Ronge Provincial Court Monday facing five charges including dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and assault.
