The second edition in the Battle of Saskatchewan had everything you’d expect to see. Star-powered offence, shutdown defence and a game going down to the final seconds. After the Hilltops opened the scoring early in the first quarter, Regina responded with 17 unanswered points before halftime and shutting down the Topper offence. Saskatoon found their game again in the second half, but was unable to put points on the board when it mattered as a late pick-six would be the difference maker for Regina. The Hilltops tried to march the ball down the field for a late-game comeback, but a fourth interception on the night would officially seal the game at 24-21 for the Thunder.
With the win, Regina locks up first place in the Prairie Football Conference while Saskatoon will settle for second place as both teams will eye a rematch, which would ultimately be in the P-F-C Final, if that were to happen. Saskatoon hits the field one last time in the regular season on Sunday, October 12th when they host the Calgary Colts. Kickoff time from S-M-F Field is 1 p.m.
