The provincial and federal governments are recognizing the need for on-campus childcare spaces with a $10.8 million investment at Saskatchewan Polytechnic and Northlands College campuses.
Through the federal ELCC Infrastructure Fund, 450 new childcare spaces will be created at the Saskatchewan Polytechnic campuses in Regina, Prince Albert, Moose Jaw and the new Saskatoon campus, and 90 additional spaces are being created at Northlands College in La Ronge.
A provincial release says about 30 per cent of the spaces will be designated to families facing barriers to access, including children with disabilities.
The spaces will be available to students, faculty and staff, and double as training sites for students pursuing careers in early childhood education.
