In the end, the Saskatoon Berries couldn’t take advantage of home field in the 2025 W-C-B-L playoffs as the Regina Red Sox came into Cairns Field and captured the East Division title with a 6-2 victory Tuesday night.
The Red Sox won the best-of-three East Division final 2-1 in front of a Berries’ record home crowd of 2,306, as the road team won all three games in the series. While Saskatoon went 25-3 at Cairns Field in a record-breaking regular season of 46 wins, they were 1-3 at home in the playoffs. Regina pitching silenced the Berries bats as Chris Spry and Ayden Page combined to scatter seven hits. The turning point of Game 3 came in consecutive half innings. In the bottom of the sixth, with the Red Sox leading 3-2, Saskatoon loaded the bases with one out – only to have Page come on and get a fielders choice out at home and a strikeout. Then, in the top of the seventh frame, Regina scored three runs to put the game out of reach. Page was the Game 1 winner and was credited with the save Tuesday, pitching a combined 6 2/3 scoreless innings. The Red Sox move on to the W-C-B-L final against the Sylvan Lake Gulls, starting Thursday. For the Berries, it’s wait until next year with a large number of players from this year’s squad eligible to return in 2026. Following are media scrums with head coach Joe Carnahan, first baseman Ethan Menard (pictured), catcher Bailyn Sorenson and centre fielder Carter Beck plus the official box score courtesy the W-C-B-L…..
