The Sturgeon Lake First Nation is hosting their annual Competition Pow Wow inviting everyone to celebrate their culture and experience the community spirit. Held at the pow wow grounds on August 1st to 3rd, the three-day event offers a one-hundred-thousand dollar singing contest prize pool of twenty-five-thousand dollars for first place, twenty-thousand-dollars for second and several thousand dollars in different denominations following. There are also cash prizes for dance categories.
Additional special events include Chief and Council’s Men’s and Women’s Traditional Specials, Senior Princess outgoing special, Teen-girls Old-style Jingle Dress, Gary Daniels’ Special for 50-years-driving-bus, TLE Law Men’s Fancy special, Men’s Traditional special and community giveaway, CFS Tiny Tot special and Prevention’s Teen and Junior special.
Master of ceremonies will be Cal Arcand of Muskeg First Nation and Kelly Daniels of Sturgeon Lake First Nation and Kelman Productions will provide sound for the event. Warren “Boss” Daniels and Shawn Daniels are Arena Directors and Micah Daniels will serve as drum judge and Ironswing as host drum.
