Saskatoon’s Victoria Park will be transformed into a national stage and play host to over 11,000 athletes and attendees this weekend for YXE Urban Games.

Discover Saskatoon CEO Stephanie Clovechok says following the opening ceremonies this evening (Friday), attendees can cheer on competitors in 11 different urban sports.

“Sports like skateboarding, 3×3 basketball, dodgeball, footsal, disc golf, ultimate frisbee, and even rock climbing and wall climbing.”

Not only will attendees get to observe, but the public will also have the chance to take part at the Just Try It family zone.

“It starts on Friday with sportball. On Saturday there’s ultimate disc, cheer, parkour, skateboarding, dodgeball, and then on Sunday, there’s an opportunity to participate in rowing at the boathouse, footsal, roundnet, which is otherwise known as spike ball, disc golf and more parkour.”

There will also be live graffiti demos, DJs, live music and food trucks. She adds that Saskatoon is the only city in Canada that hosts urban games, making the event a uniquely local initiative.

The Games are also shedding some light on several unique recreational opportunities in Saskatoon.

Clovechok says there will be a parkour demo on Saturday at the Urban Park Competition Zone in Victoria Park, and a Sask. Cable Park Demos on Saturday and Sunday at the Satellite Site on the north end of the city.

“It’s an opportunity for people who enjoy water sports like wakeboarding and water skiing to take part in that without relying on water levels and things like that in our river.”
