Mustard is the name of an imaginary friend who won’t go away, and it’s the title of 25th Street Theare’s first play of 2025.
It may sound like a children’s story, but actor Danielle Spilchen, says it’s not.
The 25th Street Theatre website rates it as PG13.
Spilchen’s character is a former imaginary friend who comes back to the human world to bring back imaginary friends who haven’t left, including Mustard.
She describes the play as a cautionary tale of what happens when our imaginary friends don’t go away as we get older, but it’s also about love, identity, relationships and how complicated those things can be.
Director Tim Bratton says, “This script will keep people on their toes. There are these beautiful vulnerabilities, tender, hard moments, and then there’s a poop joke off at the end of it.”
The play runs January 29th to February 8th on the BackStage Stage at the Remai Arts Centre. Tickets can be purchased here.
