Saskatoon Light and Power is providing its customers with tips on how to stay safe and informed during power outages.

A news release from SLP says customers can view real-time outage updates with two online resources. The first is the Outage Page at saskatoon.ca/outages. The other is saskatoon.ca/Service Alerts.

If you find yourself experiencing a power outage, the City of Saskatoon advises you to avoid using candles to prevent housefires and use flashlights instead. You should also unplug electronics to protect them from power surges once electricity is restored.

Check on elderly or vulnerable neighbors if you can, and consider having a backup power supply or generator.
