The Blades scored three times on their first six shots on goal, then held their own as Seattle dragged them into 59 minutes worth of penalties from feisty, testosterone leaks as Saskatoon trimmed the Thunderbirds 5-1 Wednesday night.
Five different Bridge City Bunch players scored in front of a five-dollar night crowd of 6,621 at SaskTel Centre. A physical first period spilled into some extra-curricular activity in the second period, leading to a total of 61 minutes in penalties, 40 of them assessed to the T-Birds. Zach Olsen, David Lewandowski, Ben Riche, Tanner Molendyk (pictured) and Tyler Parr tallied for the now 9-2-1 Blue and Gold. Lewandowski and Riche each added an assist for two-point nights while Cooper Williams and Brandon Lisowsky each chipped in a pair of helpers as the Blades held a 42-27 edge on the shot clock. Braeden Cootes’ second period power play goal was the only shot to elude Evan Gardner in the Saskatoon net as Seattle dropped to 1-3-0 on their East Division road trip – 5-7-1 overall for the season. The Bridge City Bunch win was their fourth straight at home and third consecutive head-to-head triumph over the Thunderbirds. The Blue and Gold are also 6-0-1 at SaskTel Centre this season. However, their next six games are on the road, starting Friday in Brandon and followed by a five-game swing in the B-C Division over the first nine days of November. The Blades’ next home game is Friday, November 15 against the Edmonton Oil Kings. Following are the audio highlights from CJWW’s broadcast, Post-Game Show interviews with head coach Dan Da Silva, Lewandowski and Olsen plus Les Lazaruk’s first intermission interview with Seattle General Manager Bill LaForge and the official game summary courtesy the W-H-L…..
