In an effort to grow the Indigenous workforce in the forestry industry, the province has invested $505,000 into the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies.
With the money, SIIT will generate the Forestry Log Haul Step Program, which will support up to 20 individuals in gaining the 980 hours of experience required to become a fully licensed log haul driver.
SIIT will also assist new drivers in finding employment and establishing connections with employers.
Immigration and Career Training Minister Jeremy Harrison says, “this investment will help fill the thousands of jobs our forestry sector is creating in northern Saskatchewan.”
