Whether you’re considering a career in the mining industry, or you’re looking for some Saturday entertainment, a mining skills competition is taking place today at Saskatoon’s Prairieland.
Pam Schwann, President of the Saskatchewan Mining Association, says the event wraps up the 56th annual Saskatchewan Mining Week.
She says 18 teams from different mine sites around the province will be competing in a number of scenarios that represent circumstances that they might find themselves in on site.
These include firefighting, surface practical skills, an underground mining problem that can involve confined spaces, first aid scenarios, and a written exam.
She says the event is family friendly and will run until about 4:00pm.
