In 2024-25, SaskPower intends to invest $1.6 billion into the provincial electricity system.

That’s up $433 million from last year’s capital expenditures.

The Crown Corporation says this investment will ensure reliable electricity for customers, as well as allow SaskPower to grow and modernize the system.

The largest component of the funding, $710 million, will be allocated towards new generation, including the Aspen Power Station project, and the Ermine and Yellowhead expansions.

With the money, SaskPower is also commissioning the Great Plains Power Station near Moose Jaw, kicking off operation at Saskatchewan’s first battery energy storage system near Regina, and adding 200 megawatts of energy to the Bekevar Wind Energy project near Kipling.
