Two men from Montreal Lake Cree Nation were arrested and are each facing 12 charges following the seizure of firearms, crack, and meth.
On Tuesday at 4:30 p.m., investigation by Waskesiu/Montreal Lake RCMP determined a wanted man was in a home on Montreal Lake Cree Nation. As officers approached the home, two men ran out and got into a vehicle. Officers blocked the vehicle from leaving, so the pair ran into a nearby wooded area. Four hours later, they were located and arrested without incident.
Officers say they appeared to be suffering from exposure to the elements, so they were provided first aid by the Emergency Medical Response Team. One of the men had 3.5 grams of crack-cocaine and a large sum of cash in his possession during the arrests. During a subsequent search of the SUV the duo tried to flee in, officers seized a loaded shotgun with a defaced serial number, ammunition, 20 grams of methamphetamine, two batons, a can of bear spray and trafficking paraphernalia.
Twenty-three-year-old Tyrese Smith and 32-year-old Craig McDonald Smith appeared in Prince Albert Provincial Court on Thursday.
Smith was also arrested on a Canada-wide warrant from Correctional Service Canada for breach of statutory release conditions, and from Saskatoon Police Service for being unlawfully at large.
