Prime Minister Justin Trudeau wished Premier Scott Moe good luck on Wednesday, in reference to future dealings with the Canada Revenue Agency, which will be wanting what is owed from the carbon tax the Saskatchewan government has chosen not to charge residents for fuel tax and therefore hasn’t submitted to Ottawa. Trudeau said, “Having an argument with the CRA about not wanting to pay your taxes is not a position I want anyone to be in. Good luck with that, Premier Moe. The CRA is very, very good at getting money it is owed from Canadians, businesses, and now from provinces if it has to.”
The Prime Minister also blamed the federal Conservative government for stalling the legislation which would increase the rural top-up of 10 per cent on their rebates to 20 per cent. Trudeau says it was originally planned to begin with the rebates this April. The reason for the rural top up is because people in rural areas tend to have to drive more and consume more fuel.
