The Saskatoon Police Service received information from Regina police on Tuesday about suspects using fraudulent identification and credit cards to buy tires from automotive dealerships, believing it was happening in Saskatoon as well. A suspect was identified, and a U-Haul and storage locker were located.
A 17-year-old boy was arrested and charged with theft over $5,000 and fraud over $5,000. Search warrants were executed on the storage locker and U-Haul and 48 tires were seized, with an estimated total value of $24,000.
The Police Service says this has been happening in Regina, Moose Jaw and other communities around the province. Anyone who believes they may have been victimized by this type of crime is asked to contact their local police or contact Crime Stoppers to leave an anonymous tip.
