The City of Saskatoon says the wooden pedestrian bridge that provides access to Gabriel Dumont Park from Saskatchewan Crescent West, but was damaged in a fire two weeks ago, will be repaired.
In a news release, the City says a bridge engineer determined that the April 11th fire was concentrated at the east end of the bridge, but that the blaze didn’t significantly affect its structural capacity – meaning the bridge doesn’t need to be completely replaced. An external contractor is scheduled to start work next Tuesday, April 30th with the bridge repairs to be completed in about two weeks. Pedestrians are still asked to avoid the area and follow directions for an alternate route until the walkway is reopened.
