Lawyers for the Crown and the defence have made their final arguments in the voire dire in a trial where a woman is charged with THC impaired driving, causing the death of nine-year-old Baeleigh Maurice. On September 9th of 2021, Baeleigh was on her way to school when she was hit by a pickup truck while crossing at a marked intersection on 33rd Street.
Taylor Kennedy is the first person in Saskatchewan to be charged with impaired driving while exceeding the prescribed blood-drug concentration of THC causing death. The voir dire, a trial within a trial, is about whether comments Kennedy made to police about consuming marijuana the day before the collision should be admissible. The case in back on court on Wednesday.
