It’s my Parting Shot for my reactions to the headlines in today’s Star-Phoenix Sports Section…..
First headline…Quakers win P-J-H-L championship, Blazers fall to Wheat Kings in O-T in Telus Cup West Regional final. My reaction…I see there’s no mention of the winner advancing to the Keystone Cup, what was the Western Canada Junior B hockey title tournament. I’m not sure if that’s a casualty of COVID or general economics and cost or a little bit from, both, column A and column B!
Second headline…Edey gave his all for Purdue. Reaction…every year, it seems, for the last decade or so, there is at least one Canadian men’s basketball athlete that makes a name for himself or makes a big contribution to a big-name U-S college hoops program. Whether it’s Kelly Olynyk or Shae Gilgeous-Alexander or R-J Barrett, etcetera, it’s obvious that Central Canada is producing very good basketball players! So, it’s just a matter of time that we get them all together and win an Olympic gold medal for Canada, right?! There’s more sarcasm than serious in that last sentence, trust me!!
Next headline…Atkins high on Manoah’s path to return. Reaction…once again, I ask you, how are Mark Shapiro and Ross Atkins still in charge of the Toronto Blue Jays. Alek Manoah is today’s Steve Blass for the Jays, only Manoah hasn’t had the length of success that Blass had before his pitching career took a massive downward spiral in the mid-1970s! Look it up, Uncle Google is your friend!!
Last headline…The Masters is the major you definitely want to win, Taylor comes into Augusta playing well, and has loved ones with him to enjoy it. My reaction…regardless of who it is – Nick Taylor, Corey Connors, Adam Hadwin or even the very unlikely event that it’s Mike Weir – but wouldn’t it be something if a Canadian was in contention on the back nine this Sunday?! Along with Tiger Woods?!! Okay, that’s real wishful thinking!!
That’s my Parting Shot. I’m Les Lazaruk…and it turned out nice again!…..
