A man and a woman, both from Saskatoon, have been arrested after a forensic lab matched spent cartridge cases to a seized firearm in two separate investigations.
At 12:00 a.m. on December 11, 2023, police received multiple reports of gunshots in the 700 block of Avenue H South. Officers found that the suspects had fled the area but located several spent cartridge cases nearby. Members of the Guns and Gangs Unit submitted the spent cartridge cases to the RCMP’s National Forensic Laboratory Services for further analysis.
Then, just nine days later, as a result of a separate investigation, a 36-year-old man and 23-year-old woman were arrested and found to be in possession of a loaded firearm, which was seized by police and also submitted to the NFLS.
This March, NFLS results positively matched the spent cartridge cases from the December 11th investigation to the seized firearm from the December 20th investigation.
As a result, the pair are each facing 13 firearm-related charges, and both remain in custody.
