It’s my Parting Shot for my Monday Musings…..
All hail the Homan Empire!! LOL! Good one Vic Rauter, although I’m sure his use of “Homan Empire” following yesterday’s World Women’s Curling Championship victory wasn’t the first time it’s been used!
Thank you Rachel Homan and squad for returning Canada to its rightful place atop the world women’s curling mountain! I was getting tired of Switzerland winning year-after-year!
Another thing I’m getting tired of, former competitive Canadian curlers becoming coaches and working with teams from other countries – especially countries who have very good teams. I’m looking at you Guy Hemmings and Pierre Charette! Switzerland and South Korea made it to the semi-finals with your help! I’d almost call you traitors, but I won’t! Even though, I kind of just did!! Also, Cathy Overton-Clapham coaching the U-S team?! Is the apocalypse upon us?!!
By the way, I told you Friday – as I’ve said several times in the past – when it comes to major elite curling events, it’s never a bad idea to lose a game in the round-robin, then win the title, as opposed to running the table in the round-robin, then losing in the playoffs – especially in the semi-finals or earlier! Also, to faithful listener Arthur, firstly thank you for your loyalty. Secondly, going unbeaten in a week-long elite curling event happens A LOT MORE TIMES than a football team running the table! That’s why the remaining members of the 1972 Miami Dolphins celebrate every year when the last of the unbeaten falls!!
And, it’s finally happened! My Winnipeg Jets have fallen flat on their collective butts in the chase for first place in the N-H-L’s Central Division. After a heady win over the Rangers to start their Metropolitan Division swing, the Winnipegs lost at New Jersey, the Islanders and Washington and now sit third behind Colorado and Dallas. Trust me, the Jets won’t recover, meaning an opening round series against either the Avalanche or the Stars without home-ice advantage and a quick, first-round exit! Ugh!!
Speaking of opening round playoff series, this commentary takes a breather tomorrow, then returns to preview the W-H-L playoffs on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Spoiler alert! I’m going full-on “homer” for the first time in 30 years!! And, I don’t mean Homer Simpson, although some of you will take it that way!!!
That’s my Parting Shot. I’m Les Lazaruk…and it turned out nice again!…..
