It’s my Parting Shot for some Weekend Short Shots…..
What an amazing run for Rachel Homan and her Ottawa foursome going into the weekend at the World Women’s Curling Championship in Sydney, Nova Scotia! Not only were they a perfect 10 – as in wins in as many games in this competition – but Canada’s representatives have won their last 26 games-in-a-row, almost all of them in major national or international events! Yet, I’m still of the opinion that one loss today wouldn’t be a bad thing. An 11-and-1 round-robin record would get them a bye into the semi-final round – the same as a 12-and-oh mark would. I’m a firm believer that if you’re to lose a curling game, make sure it happens in the round-robin and not in the playoffs!!
Okay hands up, how many N-C-Double-A men’s basketball tournament brackets were busted by third-seeded Kentucky losing to 14th ranked Oakland on the opening day? C’mon there’s more of you than that! Same goes for the trio of 11th seeds that knocked off sixth seeds yesterday. There aren’t that many of you that have “11” as your lucky number! Better luck next year!!
The calendar says it’s spring, but the thermometer says it’s still winter! Enough already!!
And, best wishes for a speedy recovery to the greatest and most successful head coach in Canadian Junior Football history! Tom Sargeant confirmed to me this morning that he underwent open heart surgery and had a double by-pass performed on March 5th. He may be convalescing and not prowling the halls of Walter Murray or plotting strategy for the 2024 Saskatoon Hilltops’ season. But, you know that he has embraced his recovery with the same enthusiasm and zeal that he tackles every challenge put in front of him and I know that “Sarge” will be back, better than ever – the sooner the better!
That’s my Parting Shot. I’m Les Lazaruk…and it turned out nice again!…..
