It’s my Parting Shot for some Tuesday Tidbits…..
I have a suggestion for a “Have Tour Say” question, as it is called on the CJWW website, or the “internet newspoll question” as it is referred to as on the radio by us CJWW newsroom types – they’re one and the same! My question to you folks out there, which major curling event would you most like to see next be held in Saskatoon and SaskTel Centre? A Brier, a Scotties, a Canadian Olympic Trials, a World Men’s or a World Women’s Championship? I was told many years ago by a couple of different Curl Saskatoon executives that it was a Brier or the Olympic Trials were the only ones they were interested in being involved with! Is that still the thinking today? And, if so, is it out of touch with what the Central Saskatchewan population thinks? I’ll see if I can get this question up on the website in the not-too-distant future!!
I see where the Canadian Mixed Doubles Championship is on right now in Fredericton, New Brunswick. The mixed doubles format is big around the world, moreso than traditional four members on a team rock throwing! I remember when the present mixed doubles format was known as, “two-man tough!”
A quick discussion with my good friend and W-H-L broadcaster colleague James Gallo following Saturday’s Blades-Warriors’ game in Moose Jaw led to an agreement as the league heads into its final week of the regular-season. If there’s going to be first round playoff upsets, they are more likely to happen in the Eastern Conference than in the Western Conference. The reason being once you get past Portland, Prince George and Everett in the West, there is a BIG drop-off in quality of team. Of the remaining eight squads, only Wenatchee has more wins than losses – regulation and extra time setbacks combined – with most of the Wild’s wins coming before they sold off Conor Geekie and Matthew Savoie to Swift Current and Moose Jaw, respectively. What Gallo and I are saying is that it’s going to be tough slogging through all rounds of the Eastern Conference playoffs with the West only being difficult come the final. We’ll look into that in more depth next week!
That’s my Parting Shot. I’m Les Lazaruk…and it turned out nice again!…..
