The City of Saskatoon is reminding residents to prepare their property for the spring snow melt, following more than 50 cm of snow in a six-day span to start the month of March.

This can be done by digging out covered catch basins, making a path for snowmelt to drain where it’s safe to do so, keeping snow in their yard, and clearing snow and ice from sidewalks and paths to reduce ponding and dangerous ice.

The City says crews are also working to uncovering catch basins, clearing gutters and thawing frozen locations that aren’t draining on the street. Crews will respond to reports of flooding on major streets that is interfering with traffic or has potential for any property damage.

The City also reminds drivers to avoid splashing people on the sidewalk and at bus stops.
