I don’t know which is more fun to watch, the political goings-on in Canada or the United States. Personally, when I get exasperated at the back-and-forth nonsense nowadays on our federal and provincial political scenes, I take a look at what is happening south of the border to remind myself how much worse it is with the gong show down there. It’s election year in the US with the incumbent octogenarian president vying for a 2nd term and it’s become obvious his opponent will be the septuagenarian former president. Polls show the majority of Americans don’t want either of them to be president in November, but it doesn’t seem to matter as both the democrats and republicans forge on ahead and damn the torpedoes. Joe Biden’s performance in the White House is being viewed more favorably by presidential experts than by Americans overall. A survey of 154 current or recent members of the presidential politics division of the American Political Science Association combined with scholars who recently published peer-reviewed research. Respondents were asked to rate all 45 US presidents on a scale of 0-100. Three presidents scored in the 90’s, Abraham Lincoln receiving top ranking, followed by Franklin D. Roosevelt and then George Washington. Some other notables: Barack Obama was 7th, John F Kennedy was 10th, Joe Biden tied for 13th, George W Bush was 32nd and Donald Trump was rated 45th and last. And that might just say it all.
