When you talk about agricultural irrigation in Saskatchewan, the first thought is usually the fresh water from Lake Diefenbaker.
There are a few other smaller irrigation projects that use effluent or waste water from a nearby community. An example is the Baildon Irrigation District, about 12 kilometres south of Moose Jaw.
Julie Ann Howe with Howe Coulee Charolais has three quarters of irrigated land to grow forage crops, like corn. In total, there are 11 farmers with 3,300 irrigated acres.
This is her interview with CJWW Agriculture Director Neil Billinger at the Farm and Food Care Saskatchewan conference in Saskatoon earlier this month.
