In September, YWCA Saskatoon launched its Hope Lives Here campaign to raise $19 million for three projects and the goal is getting closer to becoming a reality. CEO Cara Bahr says they are $1.95 million away from that goal.
The three projects are building 35 units of transitional housing, increasing the size of the Employment and Learning Centre because sustainable livelihoods are integral, and major repairs to the YWCA’s current building which needs a new roof.
Bahr says in 2022 over 10 women per day and 354 per month had to be turned away from their Crisis Shelter and Residence and these women and their families need a safe place to go. Turning Points is YWCA Saskatoon’s transitional housing program that provides women who are ready to change their lives with affordable housing, 24-hour support, and workshops that develop life skills and build confidence.
