As we near the end of another year I looked up some of the most-searched words or terms online in 2023 and wasn’t surprised to see that “authentic” and “deepfake” came up at the top of the list. AI, Artificial Intelligence, was a hot discussion topic this year so it makes sense those two words were popular. Would you believe “Wordle” was the term most looked up last year? Remember Wordle? Google said that word was the top trending search globally in 2022 as guessing the 5-letter Word of the Day became a favourite pastime. I can’t remember hearing or using that word lately. I wonder if anyone still plays that guessing game with friends and family? I think it’s still around. The New York Times bought Wordle from its creator last year and even partnered with Hasbro to make a Wordle board game. I mentioned last year at this time how we have a cupboard chock full of traditional board games like monopoly, snakes & ladders, checkers, chess, rummoli and scrabble. We have the board game “Saskatoon”, which is like monopoly using Saskatoon names. It came out in the 1980’s. There’s a collector’s item. This is the time of year when families and friends get together and sometimes play games instead of watching something on TV. I’m not sure how many people play those older board games when there are electronic games using our smart tv’s and smart phones, but I bet there are some traditionalists out there. You can still buy many of them and they wouldn’t be available if they didn’t sell.
