A Canadian woman who served in World War II as an entertainer in song and dance is being honoured in her hometown of Prince Albert.
The former Prince Albert Arts Centre is now to be called the Margo Fournier Arts Centre. Following her service in the war, Fournier returned to Prince Albert and became the founder and director of the Prince Albert Boys’ Choir, which went on to receive National and International recognition.
She was also a swimming and diving coach at the very same centre that is being named after her. Fournier founded the Prince Albert Music Festival Association, was named the city’s Citizen of the Year in the 1960’s, and in 1983 was inducted into the Order of Canada, the country’s highest civilian honour.
The renaming is a continued tribute to Fournier’s legacy in Prince Albert, which comes after the centre was sold to the Prince Albert Grand Council in 2022.
