Regina man facing charges related to a 2021 homicide

An 18-year-old Regina man is facing charges related to a homicide investigation from July of 2021.

On Saturday, July 24th, 2021, at 1:30 a.m., police were dispatched to the east alley of the 800 block of Queen Street for a report of an injured man. EMS pronounced 53 year-old Lionel Gary Schaeffer deceased at the scene.

Investigation determined that the death was a homicide. on September 29th, members of the Major Crimes Unit arrested an 18-year-old male, who has been charged with manslaughter and failure to stop after an accident that resulted in death.

The suspect was a youth at the time of the offence and therefore cannot be identified. He will make his first court appearance in Provincial Youth Court on Monday.
