Residents of Saskatoon will have the opportunity to dispose of elm wood at the landfill at no cost beginning tomorrow (Oct 1st) and lasting until the end of the month.
The City of Saskatoon aims to encourage quick removal and disposal of elm wood with the initiative, and also to reduce the risk of healthy trees contracting Dutch Elm Disease.
Elm wood, branches, logs, or other debris can be deposed of as part of the pilot project.
DED is a disease caused by the elm bark beetle, which effects elm trees and eventually causes them to die. Elms make up for 25 per cent of Saskatoon’s urban public forest.
