Just in time for a change in seasons SaskEnergy is adjusting its rates which will mean it costs less for natural gas as we head into colder weather.
The Government of Saskatchewan approved a commodity rate decrease of 24.5 per cent, bringing the cost of natural gas from $4.20 per gigajoule (GJ) to $3.20/GJ. The province also approved a five per cent hike to delivery service rates. But when the two are combined it will mean an overall decrease in the average residential gas bill by nearly 8 per cent or $6.52 a month.
The rate changes go into effect as of October 1st.
Minister responsible Dustin Duncan said. “SaskEnergy has done solid work on managing fluctuating markets by using its hedging program to lock in natural gas at beneficial prices. That hedging strategy provides price stability and shields customers from the extremes of market volatility.”
The commodity rate is set on a cost-recovery basis, reflecting the market price of natural gas. The delivery rate helps SaskEnergy maintain and develop its infrastructure.
