It’s my Parting Shot for my reactions to the headlines in today’s Star-Phoenix Sports Section…..
First headline…Molendyk looking to lead Blades after being drafted to N-H-L. My reaction…between the headline and the accompanying story, fans of Saskatoon’s W-H-L entry should be elated. Tanner Molendyk (pictured) is attending the Bridge City Bunch’s training camp before heading to Nashville and is excited to return to the Blue and Gold and take on a larger role this season! However, as a first round pick of the Predators this summer, you known that the 18-year-old D-man won’t turn down a chance to play some in The Show should his elite skating earn him a chance!
Second headline…Canada wins World Cup group. Reaction…With seven N-B-A players on their roster, the Canadians should be able to do do well internationally. But, just like going to Europe to play in the men’s hockey world championship is a different beast to overcome, the same goes for Canada in international men’s hoops with the rules differences from the N-B-A! So, going 3-0 and winning a preliminary round group for the first time ever and advancing to the second round at the World Cup for the first time in 25 years are great steps to take!
Next headline…New women’s pro hockey league announces its original six teams. Reaction…the six women’s team locations aren’t exactly the N-H-L’s Original Six, so Chicago and Detroit will have to wait their turn! I hope this unified front of a women’s professional league does well and considers Saskatoon for a franchise when their first round of expansion happens!
Last headline…Jacksonville waives Canadian Rourke. My reaction…no surprise. Nathan Rourke’s citizenship will hold him back from what he deserves. I hope he’s ready for an N-F-L season of being on waivers, on practice rosters and maybe the odd week on a 53-man active roster – all while getting paid more than he would get in the C-F-L!!
That’s my Parting Shot. I’m Les Lazaruk…and it turned out nice again!…..
