A Saskatoon man has been presented an Award of Merit after saving four people from a house fire last year.
Joe Madden was leaving a convenience store in the early morning of November 28th, 2022, when he saw fire coming out of a home on the corner of Clarence Avenue and Main Street. No emergency vehicles were at the scene, so Madden called 9-1-1 and proceeded to pound on the front and back doors of the house. Two people from the main floor, as well as two from the basement suite, a dog, and a budgie were able to escape the burning house.
The Saskatoon Fire Department was able to extinguish the fire within 35 minutes of Madden’s 9-1-1 call. They say the cause of the fire was undetermined, and the damages were estimated at $150,000.
Joe Madden was presented his award on Friday in a small ceremony at Fire Station Number One.
