Canada is experiencing a lifeguard shortage, which could mean a threat to summer fun for people in some areas.
Municipal governments and recreation centres have been getting creative in an attempt to attract more people to the job, while still maintaining that they meet the rigorous training required by the Lifesaving Society. Some are offering paid training, and even scholarships, to help people get the certifications they need. Typically, the program can cost over than one-thousand dollars, so the offer of free training can be a beneficial recruitment tactic.
